Last week, I signed up for Microsoft Office 365 and, even though I’m on a Mac, I thought the online email and team and website services would be a good and solid backup for the life I have heretofore entirely and exclusively run on Google Apps.
I was right and I was wrong to try Office 365. This is the story of how it all played out.
The average parent likes to have a good idea, while their baby is sleeping in another room, that their child is sleeping soundly. In years past parents had to rely on techniques such as putting their ear to the door or even fully entering and having a look to see how things are going. In the case of my beautiful Chaim Yosef we sleep in the same room as him and so we are well aware of how he is sleeping as he lets us know quite quickly if he is not sleeping.
I have to say it takes a certain amount of guts to name your cloud computing backup service “CrashPlan” — because if your service doesn’t work, you’re going to get lots of snarky headlines like the one you see for this article.
Last night, at around 10:30pm, I downloaded and installed CrashPlan on my Mac and now, over 12 hours later, and after only having 1.1GB uploaded out of a 152GB total, I’ve given up on the service and I removed my content — I think, I hope! … there’s no way to actually preserve your privacy and delete your account or confirm actual machine deletion — and I wholly removed the CrashPlan software from my beloved MacBook Air.

I was using Internet Explorer via OnLive last night and the speed was so fast I decided to see if I could get quantification for download and upload speeds for the Plus service. I couldn’t get my old favorite, Speakeasy, to load on OnLive, but I was able to get Speedtest.net to work and here are the results: An astonishing 88.05Mbps down and a fantastical 70.72Mbps up. Now that’s some fast internet! NYU slowly turns green…
Today, I just shelled out my first $5.00USD monthly fee for OnLive Desktop Plus for my iPad 2. I decided to go the money route for OnLive Desktop Plus to get priority access because the free version is incredibly slow and monotonous. I also wanted to see just how fast the Internet Explorer 9 interface was on the iPad going through the OnLive Desktop Plus backend.
