Nevertheless

by Joyce Kohl

Attending college, age forty-three
T’ain’t so easy, believe you me.
Over the hill, sliding down fast,
Up on my feet, up, off to class.

Leave with my children, grab my books,
Race to the lab, look at some “gooks.”
Rush to English, capitalize the “E,”
Hurry on now, to Sociology.

Lecturing’s not over, psych is yet,
Reared my seven all wrong, I bet.
Home to work with a Ph. and D.
Now I question my sanity.

Off the campus, I’m mother and wife,
Grandmother, too, and enjoying life.
I can write an essay with a shrug,
“Neurotic, Anti-Social Bug!”
